Currently, a widely accepted employment structure consists of education, training, and then employment. For more meaningful and successful employment, firms must consider the importance of continuing education and training during time in the workforce. In the study by Leow et al., the authors examine the employer’s perspective on ongoing education and training in the workforce, and then align practical implications to their empirical study.
Continuing education and training in the modern workforce
In the modern workforce, the skills and specialties required for work are constantly evolving, whether due to new technology like AI or blockchain, work structures, or market needs. This means that employees must continually learn new skills or new information about their work, which is best done through educational initiatives and practical work-based learning.
From an enterprise perspective, continuing to facilitate learning enables a smoother transition for their employees into new technologies, roles, and initiatives according to market needs and consumer demand, sustaining employees and lowering the extra costs of hiring specialists.
