Otro Viento Cantará: A Climate Change Cantata for Children’s Chorus, SATB Chorus, Soprano, and Latin-American Ensemble on Text by Veronica Zondek

Abstract

Otro Viento Cantará is a work which asks the question: “Is humanity of this earth, or foreign to it?”. A 50-minute cantata with Climate Change at the heart of its subject matter, the work was created under a constellation of unique circumstances, shaped by the realities of an educated immigrant living in rural Southern Chile. In this dissertation, the music of Otro Viento Cantará is analyzed in depth, and a model of music composition and musical understanding is proposed that promotes community, education, responsible social action, and a commitment to artistic integrity.
