Why can't it always be like this? All-weather racing followers will need to get used to a steady diet of mediocrity over the months ahead, but it's a relative feast rather than famine at Wolverhampton tonight.
The opening claimer at Wolverhampton features a number of useful performers and it would be no surprise if a couple of adventurous trainers fancy their chances of rekindling the fires of the likes of Aeroplane (yours for £22,000) or Flawed Genius (£18,000). Either could potentially go for the Dubai Carnival in the spring. if coaxed back to form.
Receiving weight from both of those two, Orpenindeed (5.40) looks a safer bet to me and has plenty of decent Polytrack form to his name.
Cesare (8.40) has been an admirable servant over the years, but looks a weak favourite despite a drop in grade here. A genuine Group One performer in his prime, this season he just doesn't look the same horse and his effort petered out alarmingly quickly when odds-on for a conditions contest at Newmarket two runs ago.
