MOVIE REVIEWS {STAR} {STAR} {STAR} LABYRINTH. (PG) A 14-year-old girl must penetrate a huge maze to reach the castle of the goblin king and rescue her baby brother. David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly and a large cast of Muppet-like characters created and directed by Jim Henson. At area theaters.
She's called Sarah, but she's the sort of girl who could - who has, in fairy tales past - been called Alice or Dorothy. She's the ordinary girl who embarks on a fantastic adventure in a wondrous world where she is joined by fabulous traveling companions: in this case, a gentle, furry horned giant, a feisty little terrier-like creature, a dwarf with ambivalent feelings about helping her.
"Labyrinth," a contemporary fairy tale from Jim Henson and George Lucas, wastes no time in telling us what's going to happen. Jareth, the goblin king, says to Sarah: "You have thirteen hours to solve the labyrinth before your baby brother becomes one of us forever."
Sarah's search covers familiar phantasmagorical ground, though the flora and fauna...
