Coco Chanel was able to build an empire as one of the most important designers in history: the founder of the brand that bears her name designed a clothing line linked to informality, far from the stereotype that had been generated during the late seventeenth and late eighteenth centuries, and also achieved great success as a businesswoman. Recently, the ruins of the mansion where she lived for most of her life were discovered.
Gabrielle Chanel, whose 140th birthday is August 19, 1883 in the city of Saumur, began her career as a maker of hats and other garments typical of the Belle Époque, but then devised an unprecedented style that allowed her to become a fashion icon.
