Shelton Jones still thinks about the Niagara game of two seasonsago. "I'm still kind of shocked by it," he said. "I use that gameto let myself know that anything can happen." St. John's lost to only two teams during 1984-85, that 31-4 season of seasons. Georgetown beat them (three times) and so did little Niagara.
The Niagara fans were so excited after that 62-59 victory at Niagara, they tore down one of the baskets, shattering the glass backboard. Then they made up "We Beat St. John's" T-shirts and mailed them to Queens.
"It was a wild scene, something I won't forget," Mark Jackson said. "I don't think it'll be happening again this year."
St. John's returns to Niagara's home court tomorrow night in Buffalo for its first away game of the season. Although the two teams met last year at Alumni Hall - St. John's won by 43 points - this is the Redmen's first trip back.
