That Bobby Czyz defeated Dave Sears to retain his IBFlight-heavyweight title last night was not entirely unexpected.After all, Czyz was a 5-1 favorite. But the manner in which he demolished Sears, the pride of Howard Beach, left even the 3,800 partisan fans who jammed the South Mountain Arena gasping in disbelief.
It took Czyz, of nearby Wanaque, just 61 seconds to knock out Sears, precisely two rounds quicker than Michael Spinks had managed the feat in a fight for the undisputed crown in February, 1985. Czyz, a former pre-med student and a current student of boxing, watched films of Spinks' victory over Sears and put the lessons into practice.
