Her pieces are as impressive as her name: Carmen Mercedes Todelo Araos de Correa. A native of Lima, and self-taught by nature, 'Meche' Correa is recognized in the industry for being one of the pioneers in betting on the Andean culture in her designs.
Without fear of what people will say, Correa recalls that in her early years as a designer many invited her to reflect before using Andean textiles for her pieces, because "they were not well seen and people would not want to buy something like that, so it would be bad for them". It was a challenge, but he didn't shy away. Correa pursued that flame that was lit during a trip he took when he was 20 years old, to Huancayo, where he began to look at Peruvian wealth with different eyes.
