Abstract
The aim of this work was to analyze the effects on students' conceptions towards functional diversity after an intervention carried out during the 2021-2022 academic school year in four groups of fifth and sixth graders of a regular public school in Valencia (Spain). All the students of those groups (n = 97) participated in this study and were divided into control and intervention groups. This intervention was carried out in the subject of Physical Education. The goal was to make students aware of people with functional diversity in order to achieve the inclusion of students with specific educational support needs (SEN) in the classroom. To this end, inclusive games and adapted sports were carried out such as goalball, boccia or sitting volleyball, so that boys and girls develop empathy towards students with SEN. All this was framed using the theme of superheroes and superheroines. Before and after the intervention, the inclusive school questionnaire was administered to assess their preexisting beliefs and opinions about students with diversity. Moreover, a diary was completed with information on attitudes, beliefs, opinions, comments, feelings and learning on the part of the participants. The results showed that the intervention managed to raise awareness of the needs of people who have a diagnosis of diversity or disorder, while learning to include them in their daily activities, and feeling comfortable in their presence. Key words: didactic unit, Physical Education, inclusion, functional diversity, social integration.
