Abstract
Guidance is becoming recognized as an important part of American education, and guidance programs are increasing rapidly in school systems throughout the nation. The challenge and obligation of the schools for developing the abilities and talents of our youth is indeed a formidable one in light of the technical, social, and economic changes which are occurring in American society. The population explosion and the increasing proportion of students completing high school has created problems from sheer numbers. The growth in amount of knowledge, increasing specialization, manpower shortages, and demands for educational excellence have caused complex school curricular problems.
