Abstract

This chapter presents an introduction to research conducted to investigate those factors which operate to facilitate or inhibit the processes by which management theory can be systematically developed, generalized, and applied to practice. The term "management macrotheoretics" is introduced in this research to refer to this general area of inquiry. The specific object of the research outlined in this introductory chapter is the development of a contingency-based conceptual technology and a derivative operational prototype information system designed specifically to support management macrotheoretics.
