Abstract
Meat is basic in the modern diet and meat animals are a mainstay of modern agriculture. Cash receipts from marketings of livestock and livestock products were 46.24 bill, dollars during the year of 1973 and equal to 52.2 percent of total cash receipts from farm marketings.1 Beef cattle are either raised or fed in virtually every part of the United States. On January 1, 1973 there were 121.5 mill, cattle and calves on farms.^ Except for minor decreases, the general trend of cattle and calf inventories has been increasing.
