Desktop space can be a precious commodity. To conserve it, we do everything from putting the computer on the floor to hoisting the video display to a movable stand. But no matter how hard one tries, it seems there's never enough desktop.
To reclaim space, PC manufacturers came up with the "tower" configuration, a pretentious name for standing the computer on its side. Height is usually not a problem, and the smaller footprint lets you reclaim desktop space. Many users opt to put a tower on the floor for easier access to the built-in drives.
Laser printers are notorious for hogging desktop space. Evidently someone at Panasonic realized that if towers could work for computers, they also could work for printers.
