Consequences of a rampage Wednesday night at the Salt Lake Detention Center for juveniles could have been far worse. Nonetheless, a rigorous investigation is in order.
Although one center guard was injured by youths who proceeded to release others from cells for a brief, destructive riot inside the detention building, the outbreak was quickly quelled without further mayhem. That's a relief. The hows and whys of the incident now require comprehensive attention.
