State planners say it will not be long before Utah has a system in place to facilitate electronic legal and commercial transactions through the use of digital signatures.
In anticipation, a coalition of Utahns wants to make sure law firms, private enterprises and state agencies are ready to use the technology once it is available.
The group's founders this week filed documents to form the nonprofit Utah Electronic Law Project, an initiative that aims to ease the state's transition to full-blown electronic commerce.
``The secret is not just in building the technology, it's in getting people to use it,'' said Dane Goodfellow, vice president of marketing and sales for Salt Lake City's VZ Corp. ``If we work together to use it correctly, it will give Utah visibility as a progressive state.''
