Abstract
Medication nonadherence (MNA) is a complex, multifaceted health concern that has managed to become a mainstay barrier to optimal patient health. Unfortunately, MNA goes largely underdiagnosed and consequently undertreated. Nurse practitioners have the ability to facilitate medication adherence in an organized and stepwise approach under the guidance of the ADPIE framework. Vital features to the ADPIE framework include assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation and should be considered sequentially. Key steps using a systematic approach to MNA will augment diagnosis and treatment. As a result, patients will have improved outcomes and experiences with NPs.
