Andrews reviews How to Talk So People Will Listen: Tricks for Sounding Confident (Even When You're Not) by Lizzie Waterworth.
This an excellent guide to public speaking, useful not only for children but also for adults.
Lizzie Waterworth is a voice actor, well known as Henry in the Horrid Henry cartoons, and uses her experiences, good and bad, as well of those of other celebrities, among them Stephen Fry and Harry Styles, to good effect.
She provides tips on breathing, voice control, preparation for speaking, communicating with audiences, storing the tips in her imaginary confidence toolbox. A cartoon character called 'What If?' is a pest that needs to be controlled at all times.
No matter how experienced public speakers are, they always need to hone their skills - nobody is free from embarrassment: Lizzie Waterworth's meeting with Sir David Attenborough illustrates this perfectly.
All told, with its cartoon-like illustrations, an enjoyable introduction to an important subject/ski 11. Recommended for ages 9 and above.
