Info: This year, almost 20,000 students have each spent pounds 2.99 to acquire the York Notes study guide to Macbeth. Among the examiner-impressing gems they have picked up are "Macbeth is the third shortest play written by Shakespeare" and "Macbeth is a play about the fall of man and his recovery from that fall." Shakespeare dominates the York Notes top five: King Lear is second, Hamlet third, and Romeo And Juliet fifth. The only contemporary text in the top five is Arthur Miller's Death Of A Salesman, which warns its readers, "The themes and characterisation in the play are inseparable."
