Abstract

The cheapest of the new computers is the Tandy 1000 HX at $699, which is for homes and classrooms. The IBM XT-compatible 1000 TX, at $1,199, is billed as offering three times the speed of IBM's Model 30.

Tandy's new laptop computer, the $1,599 Tandy 1400 LT, uses an NEC Corp. microprocessor and has a bright, blue, backlit screen.

Although Tandy is not a big seller of high-powered PCs, it also introduced a Tandy 4000 that uses the speedy Intel Corp. 80386 microprocessor. It is priced at $4,299 for a model with a 40-megabyte hard disk drive, compared with Compaq's Model 40 at $6,499 and IBM's forthcoming Model 80 at $6,995.
