The need for oncology nurses in the ambulatory setting continues to grow as nurses retire and the oncology patient population increases. However, nursing students traditionally have limited opportunities to experience ambulatory oncology during clinical rotations. The purpose was to assess the current state of clinical rotations in the ambulatory departments of a multi-site comprehensive cancer center, including leaders' perceptions of barriers to hosting students and hiring students as new graduate nurses (NGNs).
