In volume, the group sold 184 million pairs worldwide in its stores and online, up by 1.4 percent year on year. At the end of 2023, Deichmann had about 4,700 stores, against just under 4,600 a year earlier, as well as 41 online shops. The group’s headcount increased to more than 49,000 employees from about 48,000 in 2022, of which some 17,000 where in Germany, up from around 16,400.
Heinrich Deichmann, the chairman of the management board, described 2023 as “ a challenging year” for the group but “also a successful one.”
“Our collections and the top brands we retail at convincing great-value prices are exactly what our customers are looking for. They have enabled us to buck the general market trend and achieve growth in the stores and online,” he emphasized. He noted that the company increased sales “despite difficult market conditions, including high inflation, consumer restraint and shifting customer preferences.”
