Abstract (summary)

The following study investigates the nature and effect of conflict inherent within the construction process. It seeks to investigate the sources of the conflict and to determine how those sources are further influenced to form an emergent conflict scenario and the extent to which such effects exceed the coping mechanisms of the key parties involved therefore becoming detrimental to the process. The research methodology employed to investigate the emergent conflict must be able to look beyond isolated incidents, which have been the focus of previous research and be able to examine the conflict scenario. Therefore a case study approach has been adopted using mainly qualitative techniques which focused on an empirical understanding of the subjects and their actions within the construction process.
