Abstract

The purpose of this project is to abstract information about visual-perception and reading disability and male it available for the reading teacher. The writing chosen is from the period 1955 to 1964 from professional sources and is consistent with the philosophy and approach expressed by the Optometric Extension Program.

This annotated bibliography attempts to acquaint reading specialists and others with the child in academic difficulty who exhibits a visual-perceptual-motor problem, d suggests appropriate steps for referral and remediation.

This thesis presents: definitions of fundamental terms and concepts, additional annotated bibliographies, the underlying philosophy of Optometric Extension Program thinking, a philosophy of developmental visual-perception and reading achievement, the annotations, a conclusion and recommendations, fifteen appendices, a glossary, and an alphabetical index.

It is vital that the competent reading teacher be aware of problems, of their causes, and of measures for remediation. (Abstract shortened by UMI.)
