Comedian MARTIN LAWRENCE has been taking it on the chin lately. First, BILL COSBY dismissed Lawrence's "Martin" as "stereotypical and vulgar." Then NBC banned him from the network after a raunchy monologue on "Saturday Night Live."
Now, it's Lawrence's turn. In Vibe mag, he says network TV has a double standard for black and white characters. For example, TED DANSON'S Sam Malone salivated over numerous women on "Cheers," says Lawrence, "and he's a national hero. Why is it they only expect black characters to act like role models?"
As for Cosby, Lawrence says: "For all his clean, wholesome, Jell-O pudding, I-ain't-never-done-no-wrong image, they didn't let (him) buy NBC now, did they?"
