This essay explores my most recent work in music composition, specifically my Concerto for Cello and Percussion Ensemble. In the piece I attempt to achieve a balance between intuitive and learned approaches in musical composition. The essay is a synopsis of the voice-leading principles in the piece, the historical context in which the piece was written, and the realization of a 12-tone structural background into an atonal foreground.
