More than five million Americans are survivors of traumatic brain injury (TBI). They were born healthy, and in a single moment, something happened that permanently altered their lives. A majority suffer from car accidents, falls, or sports injuries. After hospitalization and rehabilitation, many survivors and their families turn to the Head Injury Association for continued support.
"Approximately 275,000 TBIs occur annually," CEO Liz Giordano said. "Most of these are males between the ages of 14 and 21, because they are high-risk takers in terms of driving, sports, accidents, et cetera."
