Abstract (summary)

Cette étude retrace et analyse les origines, les fondements, l'évolution et les rapports historiques entre la Confédération des Sept-Nations et les Britanniques, entre 1759 et 1774. Cette organisation politique des Amérindiens de la province de Québec regroupait des Abénaquis, des Algonquins, des Hurons, des Iroquois et des Nipissingues. Sa capitale était située dans le village des Iroquois de Kahnawake. Nées en 1763 de l'action commune des Britanniques et des Iroquois du Québec, les Sept-Nations du Canada furent intégrées au réseau anglo-iroquois de la «Chaîne du Covenant», au pouvoir colonial et à l'empire britannique.

This study traces and analyzes the origins, foundations, evolution and historical relationships between the Confederation of the Seven Nations and the British, between 1759 and 1774. This political organization of the Amerindians of the province of Quebec brought together Abenakis, Algonquins , Hurons, Iroquois and Nipissingians. Its capital was located in the Iroquois village of Kahnawake. Born in 1763 from the joint action of the British and the Iroquois of Quebec, the Seven Nations of Canada were integrated into the Anglo-Iroquois network of the “Covenant Chain”, the colonial power and the British empire.
