The Sport in School Ages in the Public Schools of Primary Education of the City of Saragossa

Abstract

The sport at school ages supposes a complex system that requires suitable treatment if one wants to reach the real educational value. Accepting the idea that the sports practice is neither good nor bad in itself, but the values that trasmit will depend on the conditions in which it is performed, the sport at school ages is evidently subject to risks that can turn easily the practice in a proliferation of negative values and opposite to the ones you want.

An investigation of quantitative methodology is carried out by means of a field work, uses the surveys as instruments to obtain information. This investigation refers to a population of 15.476 students distributed in 67 centers, from which a sample of 547 is selected. It involves other populations such as the parents of the students, physical education teachers and the monitors of the activities.

The main purposes are: (1) To obtain a critical and constructive diagnosis of this activities. (2) To define the most relevant aspects on which it is advisable and pertinent to intervene for the quantitative and qualitative improvement of the above mentioned practice in the area of study. Most significant results: (1) The practice of the sport at school ages is carried out basically at schools, being different from the one performed out of this one. (2) There exists a great difference in the practice of sport at school ages of a few centers to others. (3) There is a monopoly of certain modalities of practice. (4) There exist very different models of behavior in sport activities with regard to the implication of sexes and players evolution. (5) Premature abandonment of the practice in both sexes. (6) Important difference of percentage of masculine and feminine players in favour of the first ones. (7) Low participation of the teacher of physical education in the organization and management of the activities. (8) Scanty level of professionalization and low remuneration of the responsible technical staff. (9) Inadequate professional training of the responsible technical personnel.
