Darlington Busch Race Again Won By Martin
Mark Martin rallied to win the Gatorade 200 NASCAR Busch Grand National stock car race Saturday at Darlington (S.C.) Raceway.
Meanwhile, the series point battle took a major turn when contender Chad Little was involved in a crash. He wound up 40th in the race. Points leader Johnny Benson finished second, gaining 127 points on his rival. He leads by 156 with only five races remaining.
Little, who started 16th, drives a car that is partly owned by Rams quarterback Mark Rypien. Little had gained several places before he crashed on Lap 10. He had trailed Benson by 29 points entering the race.
Martin, winner of this event for the third successive year, made a pit stop under the race's first caution on the seventh lap for a chassis adjustment. Restarting at the rear, he made his way through the field and took the lead on Lap 51.
Martin gave up the lead on Lap 80 when he pitted again, but regained it on Lap 98 and led the rest of the way in the 147-lap event.
Martin drove a Ford and won $26,160 for his 19th career NASCAR Busch Grand National win. MOTOR SPORTS Villeneuve Wins Pole
