Host Dennis Miller was bleeped twice in his opening remarks, and Madonna used the f-word. Michael Jackson sang, danced and grabbed his crotch.
It was a typical night Thursday at the 12th annual MTV Video Music Awards, where bizarre and raunchy antics have become a staple.
Winners? Pop-rap trio TLC won four awards, including video of the year, for its cautionary AIDS tune "Waterfalls."
Alternative rockers Weezer also won four awards for its video "Buddy Holly," a homage to the TV show "Happy Days."
Tom Petty captured the first award - best male video - for his "You Don't Know How It Feels" clip. In his acceptance speech, he noted that MTV had scrambled his lyric, "Let's roll...
