Abstract

Mothers on CalWORKs may face multiple challenges that could influence their well-being and the well-being of their families. Support group programs can help reduce some of the barriers often seen in mothers' part of the CalWORK program. The purpose of this project was to design a support group, identify potential funding, and complete a grant proposal for Pacific Clinics, Santa Fe Springs, California. The Kenneth T. and Ellen L. Norris Foundation was the most suitable foundation for this grant proposal. Some components to the proposed project were primary barriers for families to employment; mental health issues, parenting and child care, formal and informal social support, substance abuse, and domestic violence. The actual funding and/or submission of this grant were not requirements for the successful completion of this academic project. Implications for social work practice are discussed.
