WU's Martz Picked As Player Of Week
Washington University sophomore Jennifer Martz has been named the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III national player of the week.
Martz, a middle blocker from Ladue High, hit .485 with 60 kills in four matches last weekend for the Bears, who went 4-0 against Division II opposition at the Washburn University Invitational in Topeka, Kan.
Martz, who also had 21 blocks (five solos and 16 assists), hit at least .380 in every match, including the finale on Saturday when she posted a .65 3 hitting percentage against Emporia State University.
The performance landed Martz, a 1995 second-team All-American, on the Washburn Invitational all-tournament team. She has been a key player in the Bears' 23-match winning streak dating back to last season.
WU will meet St. Mary's on Thursday in San Antonio before competing in the Trinity University Powerbar National Invitational there this weekend.
