Abstract (summary)

This thesis deals with the care initiatives taking place within the indigenous communities of Quebec and more particularly those affecting the health sector. The concept of health in an indigenous environment refers to a multiplicity of perceptions and can only be treated within the current care context. I therefore propose to take an example of a local initiative demonstrated by a small group of women. The strengthening of collective solidarity ensured by a community support network, the Atikamekw Women's Committee of Opitciwan, will serve as a model. The importance of their initiatives in the contemporary healing process, taking into account the historical, political, economic, social and cultural issues with which they have to maneuver, constitutes the subject of this dissertation.
