Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine self-reported management knowledge levels of RDs employed in healthcare management positions, and the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) pre-approved Continuing Professional Education (CPE) activities offered to RDs that are related to management concepts. Dietitians from DPG 41, DPG 44 and HFM were surveyed using a modified list of competencies provided by the American College of Healthcare Executives that were deemed important for the job performance of healthcare administrators. Most dietitians perceived themselves as having little or general knowledge in competencies rated most important for the job performance of healthcare administrators. Members in DPG 44 significantly differed from members in other groups, with members in DPG 44 reporting a lower perception of knowledge. Lastly, the American Dietetic Association currently offers few CPE activities that address the specific competencies identified as important for the job performance of healthcare administrators.
