Abstract

One of the most critical social-economic fields in every society is Healthcare. Healthcare providers are trying to find ways to maximize effectiveness, efficiency and productivity with the minimum resources possible by using Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions that provide access to real-time data, which can improve the performance of business processes such as customer relationship management, analytics, supply chain management and human resource management. This allows healthcare organizations to focus on their primary mission: to provide patients the right care at the right time. The major problem when adopting an ERP System, possibly leading to total failure of the project, is an inadequate selection of the system. The aim of this work, by using a Design Science Research methodology, is the creation of an artifact for an intelligent choosing process of the best ERP system for different types and settings of healthcare organizations that takes into account their specific needs. A panel of experts in the field of senior management, project management and solution development within the Healthcare Industry were presented with the finalized artifact and interviewed, resulting in the validation of the usefulness and applicability of the proposed artifact to help healthcare organizations to better pick an ERP system fitting their settings and needs, and also proposed future improvements to enhance the artifact’s capabilities.
