Just in time for the three-day weekend, city-operated spray parks and playgrounds opened for the season on Saturday. But as Pittsburgh continues to grapple with a shortage of lifeguards, pools remain closed.
The tentative opening date for city pools is June 15, according to the CitiParks website.
"Pools opening will be announced in early June, after we complete our lifeguard training, certification and onboarding," CitiParks officials said in a statement. "We hope that the continued growth of lifeguard staff in future summers will allow us to return to full capacity that would include offering additional programs such infant and preschool aquatics, children and adults learn to swim classes, swim team and water aerobics."
