If gospel singer Jody Miller had a dime for every time she's been asked if she was related to country singer Roger Miller, she figures she'd have an extra $10,000 in the bank.
"That's 100,000 times of being asked," exclaimed Miller with a laugh as she sat in a front room of the Blue Ball Fire Hall before a Saturday night concert. "Now, I'm starting to get asked if I'm related to Gary."
Grammy winner Jody Miller is not related to her business manager, Gary Miller of Mohnton, who co-owns Kinzers-based Gospel Barn Promotions. She is not related to the late Roger "King of the Road" Miller, although she did win her Grammy with her 1965 Billboard Top 5 rebuttal song, "Queen of the House."
She is related, by sweat and high hopes, to every performer who ever set foot on the comeback trail.
So how did onetime pop diva Jody Miller end up in the Blue Ball Fire Hall, playing to a politely curious crowd of 200 on a chilly night.
"This is a completely different career from the one I had before," Miller said. "This time, I'm being led by the Lord."
Her silver belt buckle, as large as the buckles worn by the broncobusters...
