Earrings are one of the oldest and most versatile accessories used throughout history. Their origin dates back to more than 6,000 years ago in Ancient Egypt, where they were symbols of social status and protection. The first earrings were made with materials such as carnelian or red agate stone, to which healing properties were attributed, specifically to relieve stomach pain.
Origin and first uses
The custom of adorning the lobes is believed to have originated in Western Asia around 3000 BC. The oldest earrings discovered date back to 2500 BC and were found in the royal tombs of Ur in present-day Iraq. In these cultures, earrings not only had a decorative function, but also served as a talisman and divine protection.
