We've got an abundance of great Mexican places to recommend to out-of-town visitors, so if the locals suggest a restaurant to America's next possible president and VP, it's probably worth taking that seriously.
State of play: Vice President Kamala Harris and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, stopped by Cocina Adamex after their rally in Glendale last Friday.
- Harris joked that her Midwestern running mate considered black pepper spicy, the Republic reported.
- They ordered the red and green chile tamales.
My thought bubble: Cocina Adamex replaced Azteca Cocina on Seventh Avenue just north of Van Buren Street two years ago.
- I ate frequently at Azteca, but I've somehow never made it to Cocina Adamex, which I'll chalk up to the fact that I primarily work from home instead of from the Capitol these days.
- But I'm always on the lookout for great Mexican food, and Harris and Walz inspired me.
Best bites: I considered the tamales — there's been a run on them since Harris and Walz's visit was publicized — but since I hadn't had some good machaca in a while, I went with that instead.
- Machaca is spiced shredded beef, which Cocina Adamex serves with peppers, onions and tomatoes.
- The machaca was savory and flavorful, but also mild enough that you could recommend it to any visiting Minnesotans.
- They've also got a bakery and proudly advertise their XL conchas, which are Mexican sweet rolls.
