The Gadjits "At Ease" (Hellcat Records)
Dropkick Murphys "Do or Die" (Hellcat Records)
Hellcat Records has made it to my good side. With the release of debut full-length albums from the ska-sters Gadjits and pub-punkers Dropkick Murphys, they've unleashed a slew of great, new, unusual music onto a stale scene.
I suggest the biggest favor I could do for the Gadjits would be not to mention Hanson. Three of the four members of this extremely entertaining Kansas City ska band are brothers (the youngest, Adam, is only 16 years old), so I fear that they've been barraged with endless comparisons.
"At Ease" (.* * * 1/2) is the best ska offering I've heard since the Bosstones last album, "Let's Face It." Of course, the Gadjits offer up a different form of ska than do the Bosstones. While the Bosstones have a harder, punk edge, the Gadjits...
