The agency charged with cleaning waste water washed its hands Thursday of a Schaumburg home and more than 2 acres with federal landmark status.
The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago decided without opposition Thursday that the Schweikher home at 645 Meacham Road is surplus property, and said its staff should begin negotiations to sell it to the village of Schaumburg.
"I'm really happy this has happened," said district commissioner Gloria Majewski. "The village felt it was an important part of Schaumburg history and I thought we should respect that and honor that."
