Abstract

Due to this, Renner et al. have emphasized on the importance of continuous monitoring of the pneumococci particularly in Africa [6]. [...]pneumococci have received extensive attention in Ghana leading to the introduction of childhood vaccination with the 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-13) in the year 2012 [5]. All related studies that reported on at least four of the following were included for data extraction: (1) prevalence of isolates, (2) sample size, (3) age of study subjects, (4) study setting, (5) period of study, (6) type of morbidity or carriage, (7) serotypes of pneumococci, (8) antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST), and (9) molecular analysis of pneumococci isolates from Ghana were included. [11] Retrospective study Epidemiological data, clinical diagnosis, isolated organisms, and antimicrobial susceptibility. [22] Prospective study Epidemiological data, serotypes, clinical diagnosis, antimicrobial susceptibility, and whole genome sequence types. Status Prevalence of pneumococci (%) Sample size Age Setting Prevalence of penicillin-nonsusceptible pneumococci (%) Reference Sick children 51.4 311 6–12 months Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi 17 Denno et al.
