Some say it looks like a Ferris wheel on a 45-degree angle. Others think it looks like part of the enemy battle station from the movie "Star Wars."
Whatever the interpretation, passers-by are certainly taking note of the entryway of the new Lucent Technologies building under construction on Warrenville Road in Lisle.
Internationally recognized architect Kevin Roche said he tried incorporating two concepts into the atrium roof: the ancient Asian "innovation ring" symbol of the communications company and the image of a satellite dish.
"We don't want to put a huge Lucent sign up, but this will in a subtle way to remind people of the presence of Lucent," said Roche, 77, who helped design the St. Louis Gateway Arch in the 1960s.
