Series: Celebrating Schaumburg: Marking the village's 50 years
At the end of a white gravel road off Meacham Road, behind the "no trespassing" signs lies one of Schaumburg's most historic homes.
Upon seeing the two distinct one-story buildings attached by a breezeway, it's obvious this is no ordinary house.
Once inside, it's a 4,800-square-foot maze of rooms laid out to specifications of master architect Robert Paul Schweikher, who built it in the 1930s.
The Schweikher House and Studio, the only village building on the National Register of Historic Places, was completed in 1938.
With exquisite details in redwood, brick and glass, the house is influenced by Frank Lloyd Wright's Prairie style and Japanese architecture.
