"O que Convém ao Sexo": Representações de Mulheres em Pré-História dos Museus da Área Metropolitana de Lisboa

Abstract

Este trabalho analisa as representações das mulheres nas exposições de Pré-História dos museus da Área Metropolitana de Lisboa com o intuito de perceber que estereótipos se refletem nos discursos do Passado Pré-Histórico. Para além de se pretender perceber que silêncios e que invisibilidades existem nas narrativas dos museus com coleções de arqueologia, tenta-se compreender o “porquê” e as consequências que tais narrativas podem ter na sociedade contemporânea. Para isso, procurou-se compreender o que significou “ser mulher”, sobretudo no Portugal do século XX. Essa procura foi maioritariamente realizada através da análise de movimentos feministas e de diversas abordagens a questões de género.

Realiza-se ainda uma reflexão sobre a finalidade atual dos museus. Se, enquanto espaços de educação não formal e de possível proximidade à população, deverão e poderão assumir uma agenda pela igualdade e não discriminação.

This work analyses the representations of women in Prehistory exhibitions in museums in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area with the aim of understanding which stereotypes are reflected in discourses on the Prehistoric Past. In addition to trying to understand what silences and invisibilities exist in the narratives of museums with archaeology collections, we try to understand the “why” and the consequences that such narratives can have on contemporary society. To achieve this, we sought to understand what it meant to “be a woman”, especially in the 20th century in Portugal. This research was mainly carried out through the analysis of feminist movements and different approaches to gender issues.

There is also a reflection on the current purpose of museums. If, as spaces for non-formal education and possible proximity to the population, they should and can assume an agenda for equality and non-discrimination
