A Courtenay Place retailer is threatening to move her 25-year-old business because of fears that a proposed $2.4 million street upgrade will destroy it.
Bennetts Giftworld owner Robin Bowers doesn't believe the business can survive if the city council makes the street improvements.
"I will not wait for council to say we have made a mistake and I have gone broke," she said.
"I will be gone before that. We all survive on the through traffic."
The plans for the much-awaited Courtenay Place revamp have been completed after 18 months of talks with retailers and the Mt Victoria Residents Association.
