After two years of planning, work has finally begun on a multimillion-dollar redevelopment of Wellington's Courtenay Pl.
Wellington firm Fulton Hogan Civil has won the contract, which involves simplifying the major intersection at the Mt Victoria end, new paving, bus shelters and a wide pedestrian area on the southern (Basin Reserve) side.
Work began at the weekend with the demolition of old bus shelters from the centre island.
The project will be carried out in seven stages, starting on the northern side. This involves:
