A derelict brew tower built in 1915 has been carefully converted to become the entrance way of a New World supermarket in Thorndon.

In just over a year, Foodstuffs has transformed the abandoned and rundown former Lion Breweries site in Thorndon into the shining new $22 million New World supermarket which opened last week.
Foodstuffs bought the site in June last year and applied for resource consent to develop the 4716 square metre supermarket.
Research undertaken by Foodstuffs indicated a need for another supermarket in Wellington for customers at the northern end of city.
