Old man's beard must go - but efforts to rid Wellington of the noxious weed aren't going fast enough, Wellington Regional Council says.
The council's eradication programme was so far behind schedule that parts of the city wouldn't be inspected for 17 years, biosecurity manager Wayne O'Donnell said.
Only a third of Wellington properties had been inspected under a programme the council began in 1993, Mr O'Donnell said.
It had been expected that the entire city would be checked for infestations by 2000.
