Portable computers buyers are expected to continue to benefit From the stiff competition between the top vendors
RESEARCH house International Data Corporation says Toshiba continues to dominate the global notebook computer market.
According to IDC, for the first quarter of this year, Toshiba again captured the top position, with 24.4 per cent of the overall portable market - more than Compaq and IBM combined.
Toshiba, the notebook industry leader for more than three years, increased its shipments in the portable market by 41 per cent over the same quarter last year, IDC says.
Toshiba is also the market leader in New Zealand by a wide margin.
In the year to June, IDC says almost 40 per cent of about 32,000 notebook computers sold in New Zealand were supplied by Toshiba.
One of Toshiba's newest portables is also its smallest.
